I have recently completed a new book The Basque Witch-Hunt: A Secret History (Bloomsbury Academic, 2024). It tells the story of one of early modern Europe’s most notorious and ostensibly best known witch-hunts. Drawing on newly discovered sources in archives from Paris to Rome and Madrid to Mexico City, I show that much of what historians thought they knew about this witch-hunt is wrong.
